LITTLE WHILE // FILM PROJECT
Our goal is to create a film that tells the story of how Little While came to be. We will focus on the people behind the project by exploring their motivations, passions, and love for their craft. We will capture the process in all of its beautiful and uncomfortable forms. We will document the little moments, the moments right before something is about to happen, and the moments that define who we are and what we stand for.
The QUESTIONS
Before we start, our core cast of characters must answer the following questions:
Why are you passionate about this?
Why does Little While matter to you?
What would you consider to be your life’s purpose? Your reason for being?
Whether or not we share the answers to these questions with our audience will be determined later on. For now, they essential to our process and will help guide how we approach the storytelling aspects of the film. They will be codified into the DNA of this film.
THE COMMUNITY
One additional question we must answer: Who is this film for? Who is our audience? The answer must be more specific than everyone or local brand awareness. We must attempt to understand who we are speaking to. We must seek to understand their needs and desires. We must remember that once this film is complete and sent out for public viewing, it will no longer belong to us. It will belong to them. Our audience, our people, and our community. We must remember to be honestly, authentically human. And, above all, we must remember to be entertaining.
COME SPEND A LITTLE WHILE WITH US
For us, the filmmaking process will become an immersive experience. We will capture the moments in real time, as they happen. The difficulties, the struggles, the growing pains that come with doing something big and bold that has never been done before. With any new endeavor, patience is key. Allowing each moment its time is essential.
FACING THE MONSTER | A DOCUMENTARY PHOTO SERIES
In 2017, the team at Portal Coffee set out to transform a small brick-lined office space on San Diego’s waterfront into San Diego’s best new coffee shop. They invited us to document their journey.
The space was, at first glance, apocalyptic. The task at hand seemed insurmountable, impossible even. They were facing the monster.
There were struggles, growing pains, missteps, and bold experiments that didn’t pan out. We navigated the pandemic together, learned how to be agile and nimble and evolve during times of global crisis. For us, it was less about where we were going, and more about capturing each moment as it happened. We endured, they thrived.
BUDGET & PRODUCTION PARaMETERS
Until the scope of the project is fully realized, planned out, and itemized, the budget will be in flux. Based on what we know, here is what we can determine:
We will primarily film during the months of August and September 2025. Potential for October filming, depending.
Filming a documentary in real time requires planning and agility. We must determine, first, what the most essential moments are and when they might be. Next, we plan to accommodate unexpected moments. Most shoots will require a small crew. Some will be filmed with a single, handheld camera. We will scale the production up and down depending on the needs at hand.
We must be intentional and decisive in selecting the scenes and moments to film to avoid simply shooting ‘everything,’ a common mistake among first time documentary filmmakers (unfortunately, not everything is compelling, or essential to tell our story).
Completion date is also in flux, but the final cut must be delivered before the end of November 2025 (we will be traveling internationally and off the grid at the end of November).
With all of this in mind, our base price is $12,500. This price will adjust depending on how many shoots are expected.
WHY US?
We're storytellers of causes and moments that benefit from a curious, authentic perspective. Our production company, One Apparatus LLP was born from the idea that the lens and human/brain interface are one functioning apparatus through repetition and love.
We also flat-out love filmmaking and documenting the human experience. We want to tell your story and share it with the world.
